What if Wilhelmina

Written by Dionne O'Dell, Music by Chelle Peterson

What if Wilhelmina is the story about the day when Wilhelmina, the cat, goes missing! Her nine-year-old owner Faith grows more and more anxious imagining 'What If' her kitty was caught in a storm, or got stuck in a garbage truck, or was abducted by aliens! Written and directed by Dionne O'Dell, this was an original musical for young and neurodiverse audiences based on the children's book by Joseph Belisle. The show included sensory engagement, puppets, & music, and featured different ways to manage one's anxiety.

Performances at Michigan State University featured community engagement before every show, where audience members were encouraged to interact with the actors, draw pictures, get face paint, and read about some of the famous artwork featured in the book at show. Audiences were also encouraged to meet the puppets in the lobby after the show to receive 'autographs' from characters and take pictures.
